Take Your Certifications

You must take certifications to sell Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans. You do not need to certify to sell Medicare Supplement plans. You must certify annually, but the next-year’s AEP certification may apply for the current-year (e.g. in July 2024, taking the 2025 certification will allow you to sell 2024 and 2025 plans). Carrier make certifications available roughly between the last week of June and first weeks of July.

Note for agents: The required E&O for Medicare is $1m per claim // $1m aggregate.

Note for agencies: If you have an agency, you can typically use the agency’s E&O for yourself as the Principal (in addition to the agency), and for your downline agents if they are employees and assigning commissions to you. If you have street agents, those street agents typically need to purchase their own E&O. Before purchasing agency E&O, ask your personal E&O carrier if you can add your agency name to the certificate of insurance rather than purchasing an agency policy.
