Spark’s direct contract to UnitedHealthcare
Spark received the go-ahead to contract directly with UnitedHealthcare in February 2024. We will be transferring to a direct contract from Friday March 1 through Sunday March 3.
Please find the FAQ below to see how you might be impacted. Note: your writing number will change but no action is required. You will not be able to use Spark’s enrollment tool on March 2nd or March 3rd, and you may have limited access to Jarvis during that time.
What’s changing for Spark agencies and agents?
- All Spark partner agents will receive a new UHC writing number as of Saturday, March 2nd.
- Spark will have a direct contract with UnitedHealthcare instead of being under Pinnacle Financial Services, which is an Amerilife-owned entity. Expect lots of great reporting and service changes!
- Spark will no longer be able to offer certification for UHC’s I-SNP Plan.
We’ll be processing these changes over the weekend of March 2nd. Spark agents will have limited access to enroll in UHC plans in Sunfire and Jarvis from March 1st to March 3rd. During this time agents can expect to receive communications from United concerning their new writing number.
- Why is Spark doing this? There are a number of critical improvements we get by being direct to UnitedHealthcare:
- Significantly faster reporting for enrollment production & contracting
- More immediate agent/agency-support without a go-between
- Complete control of our hierarchy without an Amerilife intermediary
- Direct relationship with UnitedHealthcare and their member care teams so we can continue to build our client service offering
- Direct relationship with UnitedHealthcare distribution management
- Will my writing number change?
- Yes. You will be notified of your new writing number by UnitedHealthcare directly during the transition period.
- Will I be able to use Spark’s quote & enroll on Saturday 3/2 and Sunday 3/3?
- No; you will not be able to write business with UnitedHealthcare using Spark’s enrollment tool. It will be available on Monday again.
- Will I have access to Jarvis?
- You will temporarily lose access to Jarvis over the same weekend of March 2nd and 3rd. If you need to write an application, you may wait for it to come live again or write a paper application. Thank you for your understanding!
- Will I be able to see my old business?
- Yes, you have visibility into all business written with your old writing numbers. Follow the steps here.
- Can a downline agency promote agencies in their own downline in the next year after Spark goes direct?
- Yes. If a downline has been under Spark for 12 months, they can be promoted. The clock does not start over because Spark has moved direct to UnitedHealthcare.
- I’m waiting for my new/transfer UHC contract to process to align with Spark, is there anything I should know?
- The packet would error and Spark would need to submit a new request once they are moved. Spark’s contracting team will proactively flag those agents and resubmit.
- An agent put an intent to transfer to Spark under Pinnacle. Do agents need to resubmit?
- If the agent/agency specified Spark in the ITM, a new one is not required. If only Pinnacle was mentioned, then they would need a new one. Note: all of Spark’s instructions direct agencies to mention Spark in addition to Pinnacle. We do not anticipate any agents falling off. If they do, we will work with Pinnacle to correct.
- Will Spark lose access to the ISNP product?
- Yes, unfortunately Spark will no longer have access to the product and downline agents cannot write it anymore. You will continue to receive commissions on prior business.
- If an agent in Spark’s downline wants to stay with Pinnacle for a few months to finish up their existing ISNP initiatives but come back to Spark before AEP (with a release), would they be able to do those 2 moves in <6 months?
- Yes
